Steel Roof Deck Installation Guidelines
The installation of steel roof decks, including those produced by the 1.5″ A Narrow Rib Roof Deck Roll Forming Machine, must be carried out by skilled and experienced professionals. Before manufacturing the materials, detailed roof deck installation plans must be submitted for review and approval by the project architect and engineer.
All steel roof decks, such as those made using the 1.5″ A Narrow Rib Roof Deck Roll Forming Machine, must be installed according to the approved drawings. End laps should have a standard overlap of 2 inches and must be positioned directly over structural supports. Each deck panel should be placed on the supporting framework, carefully aligned, and adjusted so that side laps and end overlaps align accurately on the supporting members. Welds must penetrate all layers of material and securely attach to the structural supports. Welding electrodes must be selected with care to prevent high amperage blowholes and ensure reliable attachment. Puddle welds should measure a minimum of 5/8 inch in diameter, or elongated puddle welds with an equivalent perimeter may be used. If fillet welds are applied, they must be at least 1 inch in length.
Roof deck ends should be welded to supports at intervals not exceeding 12 inches on center, while intermediate supports should be welded at a maximum spacing of 18 inches on center. Alternative mechanical fastening systems, such as power-activated or pneumatically driven fasteners and screws, may be used if reviewed and approved by the project designer.
